Ultrasound is the preferred imaging modality for the assessment of the anatomy of the female pelvis and, in particular, the uterus and the ovaries. Ultrasound enables evaluation of all stages of pregnancy and detection of a variety of pathologic conditions. The First-Trimester Pregnancy Advanced Clinical Ultrasound Training provides a brief overview of relevant pelvic anatomy and normal embryologic development. Both transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound scanning techniques are reviewed. The sonographic evaluation and monitoring of normal embryologic development, including multiple pregnancies, and pathologic conditions that arise in the first trimester of pregnancy are discussed in-depth. The module also presents a variety of imaging tips and pitfalls and concludes with a summary of salient teaching points.
